This is a set of new-old-stock that has never been used. We recently uncovered this set after years of neglect in an old lumberyard. We are guessing it was made in the late 1930s or sometime in the 1940s. The set consists of Art Deco back plates with glass fluted knobs.
The “Penn” mortise lock measures 3 3/4 inches by 3 1/8 inches. Its face plate is 5 3/8 inches by 7/8 inch. The Art Deco back plates (as well as the lock face plate and strike plate) have a “sand” finish, according to the dilapidated box. The back plates measure 6 inches long and 1 7/8 inches at the widest part. The strike plates measures 3 3/8 inches by 7/8 inch.
There are 7 pieces in the set: a mortise lock; two glass knobs; 2 matching back plates; a strike plate, and a key. A spindle and set screws are also included.
