In many Victorian homes, the large entryway had a hall tree bench. You know, one of those pieces of furniture that had hooks for coats and hats, a place for the umbrellas, and a bench to sit upon and within to hide the shoes or boots. This double hook came off of that kind of furniture. It is solid brass. Two long arms fan out to receive a coat or hat and underneath are two short hooks. The hardware is attached to the hall tree with a bolt that is part of the piece and then secured with a nut from behind. The bolt is one inch long. The back plate is 1 1/2 inches round and has a small hole at the base in order to further secure the hook so,it won’t twirl on the bolt. The arms protrude approximately 6 inches from the surface. The space between the two top arms is 4 inches. This is a fine, unusual piece.
