How this knob was used is a puzzle to us. It is obviously from the Victorian era, but it is no ordinary knob. The knob was made with an embedded heavy screw, and it has knurling around the outer edge of the knob, like it was made to turn rather than pull. We have only dusted this knob. It could be polished to a bright brass. It is shown with its aged patina.
The knob measures one inch in diameter. The outer edge is 1/4 inch wide; it has the knurling (small thumb-nail indentions to aid in gripping the knob for turning). The base of the knob is 1/2 inch wide. The knob projects 3/4 inch from the surface.
The Old Hardware Store definitely has the unusual items!
