This is a very attractive Victorian back plate. It is heavy cast iron, but has been rubbed or finished with a bronze finish. It was made by the Russell and Erwin Mfg. Company of New Britain, Conn. The pattern is called “Itasca” and the hardware appeared in their 1909 catalog. The company name and pattern name are stamped on the back of the plate.
The plate measures 8 inches vertically and 2 inches horizontally. The keyhole is 2 inches below the knob hole.
