Even though this old cast-iron latch does not have the fancy Victorian décor, we still date it to around 1900. It is more square cornered, but its style with a brass knob tells us that this piece is very old. Much of its original black paint is intact. This style of brass knob is somewhat uncommon. This kind of latch has a plunger that fastens under the keeper controlled by a spring. These inner parts are complete on this latch. The body of the latch measures 1 3/4 inches by 1 1/4 inches. With the keeper, the entire length is 2 1/2 inches. The keeper is original. Black flat-headed screws will be included.
