The copper hardware look was the rage the first twenty years of the 20th century.,Steel knobs and back plates were covered with a copper finish or “flashed” which,is a process of japanning or doing a black lacquor work to render the metal rustproof.,This set has a beautiful copper finish on the back plates. The oval knobs were also,treated with a copper finish, but some of it has worn off through the years.,Flashing can be seen on the faceplate of the mortise lock and on the strike plate., ,The oval knobs are on their original spindle and measure 2 3/4″ x 1 7/8″. The back,plates are 6 3/4″ x 2 1/4″. The mortise lock as a backset of 2 1/2″ and the box measures,3″ by 3 5/8″ tall and a half inch thick. The faceplate is 5 1/8″ x 7/8″. It is in good,working order. The strike plate measures 3 1/4″ x 7/8″. , ,This set has not been cleaned, but remains in its original condition. We have,cleaned and oiled the workings of the lock and tested the key. Screws are included.
