This butterfly door hinge is quite unusual. It was made by the National Mfg. Company in Rockford, Illinois in the early 20th Century. It has the flashed copper treatment. This hinge is in exceptional condition with the flashed copper surface intact. Many flashed copper hinges loose the fragile treatment after many years of use. This half mortise hinge can be used either on a left-hand door or right-hand door by flipping the pin.
The plain half of the hinge, that is embedded into the frame of the door, measures 3 1/5 inches vertically and 1 1/2 inches deep. It has a good flashed copper finish. The butterfly half of the hinge, that is fastened to the front of the door, measures 3 1/5 inches vertically and 2 3/4 inches across. The half-mortise use allows the pin and spine of the hinge to protrude away from the door which allows the door to swing freely.
