On the old cast iron fence that often surrounded the front yard of a fine Victorian home, one could see several fancy finials. Every six or so feet, one of these finials graced the fence. Here is a set of four of these finials. This set is from the Art Deco period (1920-1940) and are painted with this period’s colors.
Each finial has the fleur de Lis pattern. The design is on one side only. From the base of the finial, each measures 3 1/4 inches vertically and 2 14 inches horizontally. The original green and red paint are on the iron finial. In addition to the finial, there is a base that inserts into the fence post. It is 7/8 inches deep and 5/8 inches wide.
Today these neat old pieces could be used for other decor than a fence!
