This extremely rare shaped pair of butterfly door hinges are in very good working condition. We have cleaned and oiled the pair. The original surface finish, however, is gone. The pair was manufactured between 1900 and the 1920s and had a flashed copper treatment. The steel hinges were coated with copper and then flashed with a black lacquer. The treatment was not durable and has been mostly lost through the years. There is a sleight hint of the copper still visible.
It is the shape of this pair that is unique. The mortised half, that is embedded into the frame, measures 3 1/2 inches by 1 1/2 inches. The butterfly half, that fastens to the front of the door, measures 3 1/2 inches by 2 1/2 inches. From ball finial tip to ball finial tip is 4 3/4 inches. Screws will be provided.
