This old fellow is as we found him. One could polish the brass to a shine, but we have left the years of patina and greenish ting on this antique. It is also rare to find both the knocker and receiver together. The lion head and receiver are mounted to the door with 1/4-inch all-thread bolts. There are two bolts behind the head, that tread into the back of the hardware. There is one bolt on the back of the receiver that threads into the hardware. Each bolt has a nut. There is nothing, however, to cover the ends of the bolts and nuts on the backside of the door.
The lion head measures 3 3/4 inch round. The striker ring hangs 3 1/2 inches down from the lion’s mouth. It is 3 1/2 inches wide at the widest part. The receiver, which looks like a flower, measures 2 7/8 inches round. The entire length of the knocker, when both pieces are fastened to the door, is 7 inches.
The two pieces of hardware weigh 2 pounds, 2 ounces.
