A flashed copper hinge in good condition is hard to acquire. This treatment was used from about 1900 to the 1920s. The steel hinge was coated with a copper finish and then flashed with a black lacquer. Through the years, if exposed to dampness and abuse, the treatment broke down. This half mortise hinge was made by McKinny (it is marked) and has withstood time very well. It is in very good condition.
The wider wing that fastens to the front of the door measures 3 1/2 inches by 2 inches. It is beveled. The smaller wing that is mortised into the frame of the door measures 3 1/2 inches by 1 1/2 inches. The total height of the hinge, including the ball finials, is 4 3/4 inches. The offset is 3/8 inch. Screws will be included.
