This outstanding set of brass hardware came from an ice box dating before 1900. There is only one pair of hinges –each with a 3/8″ off set. The back leaf of the hinge is 4″ long and 1 1/8″ wide. The front leaf is 2 1/2″ long and 2 1/2″ wide.
The awesome latch works on gravity and needs to be in a vertical position. When opening the door, the bail of the latch is lifted to lift up the bar and to clear the keeper. The latch measures 5 1/2″ long and 2 1/2″ wide. The latch also has a 3/8″ to 1/2″ off set.
This set could be adapted to an old chest or box, with some ingenuity.
