This hook is in almost new condition. The black paint is intact. This funny hook, however, was made to go into a wardrobe. In Victorian homes, before closets were installed, each bedroom had a stand-alone wardrobe. Within this large piece of furniture, hooks such as this were used for hanging garments. Each wardrobe had four to six of these, depending on the size of the wardrobe.
Of course, this hook can be used to hang other items. It will withstand quite a bit of weight, within reason. Some of our customers use these for purses, jewelry, or scarves.
The screw is 3/4 inch long. The hook is 2 1/4 inches long.
