This vertical rim lock, that fastens to the surface of the door, is for a RIGHT-hand door. It is made of cast iron and has most of its original black paint. This type of door lock were often used before the more popular mortise locks (those that fit inside the door) or on doors that were too thin to accept a mortise lock. The rim lock is mounted next to the door’s edge. The keeper is mounted on the frame next to the rim lock.
The box measures 3 3/4 inches tall, 3 3/8 inches wide and 5/8 inch thick. The lock lever to lock the plunger is on the side. The spindle hole is 7/8 inch from the top and 3/4 inch from the side. The keyhole is 5/8 inch from the bottom and 3/4 inch from the side. The keeper measures 3 3/4 inches long, 3/4 inch wide and 3/4 inch thick. A key is included.
