This rim lock is the vertical style for a LEFT-Hand door. It fastens on the side of the door next to the door’s edge. The plunger goes into the keeper that is mounted on the frame of the door. There is a lock lever on the top of the box. This lock box, that probably dates before 1900, is made of cast iron and has its original black paint. The hole for the doorknob spindle is 7/8 inch from the box’s edge and one inch from the top edge. The keyhole is 7/8 inch from the box’s edge and 3/4 inch from the bottom edge.
The box measures 4 1/8 inches tall, 3 1/4 inches wide and 1/2 inch thick. The keeper measures 3/4 inches wide, 4 inches tall, and 3/4 inches thick. A key is included.
