One of the most common latches we see, that seems to have been used for a hundred years, is this simple cabinet turn latch. This type of latch is still made today. This one, however, is an old one dating from about 1900 to the 1930s. We know this because of its flashed copper treatment. This latch is stamped steel with some of its original flashing still visible. Because of its age, it has a lot of character. These boxy latches were used on about any piece of furniture that needed a door latch. This piece is a large variety, measuring 2 inches wide and 2 inches long, including the keeper. Including the turn knob, it projects from the door face 1 1/4 inches. The latch is in good working order.
