Another way to latch a cabinet or cupboard is with a barrel-bolt latch. This one is old and small, a perfect fit for an old pantry cupboard or jelly cabinet. It is stamped steel and works without a keeper. The latch is fastened to the right cabinet door and when the barrel is extended, it will fold over the left-side door keeping it from easing open. The body of the latch measures 2 7/8 inches long and 1 3/8 inches wide, including the screw-hole wings.
