This very old solid brass knob falls into the category of puzzling. It appears to be a furniture knob, but it has the unusual square shank bolt attached. The bolt is inserted through the furniture and anchored with a nut. The square shank at the upper portion of the bolt prevents the knob from turning in place. In the ranks of old knobs, however, this construction is unusual.
We have not polished this oldie but have left its natural patina. The knob measures one inch in diameter. Its base is 1/2 inch wide. The thick bolt is 1 1/2 inches long and has its original nut. The heavy knob projects 3/4 inch from the surface.
We would sure like to know what this gem came off of!
