This exquisite beauty is for a front door. (We have customers, however, that buy these pieces of art for other purposes.) The maker’s name is not on the back plate, but the Patented date is: Jan. 2/83 (1883). The piece has an elaborate sunburst around the door knob opening which is repeated as a type of finial on the top of the back plate. A basket-weave pattern covers the remainder of the cast brass plate.
The back plate measures 9 3/4 inches long and 2 1/4 inches wide. The key hole has a swing cover. It is 2 3/4 inches from the center of the door knob opening. The back plate is heavy, weighing 9 ounces.
