Even though this hook appears to be iron-based, it has a bronze finish that has darkened to a beautiful aged patina. This piece dates from the late 1800s to the early 1900s and probably came off of a hall tree bench furniture piece. The heavily decorated hook is fastened to the furniture with two large screws. The hole centers are 1 1/8 inches apart on a back plate that measures 1 1/2 inches by 2 5/8 inches. The hook protrudes 4 1/2 inches from the surface, but the upper arm reaches 3 1/2 inches straight up from the back plate. It has the flattened end or platform for a hat. There are two lower arms or hooks for coats or scarves.,This is an outstanding piece and could be used anywhere. It definately makes a statement!
