In the Victorian era, entry door plates were pieces of art. Visitors were greeted by the front door, the first impression, and then lead into an elaborate parlor. This door plate would definitely impress any visitor. It is cast brass, heavy, and beautifully decorated. The deep inset pattern is offset by a high relief of leaves and beading. The plate measures 7 1/8 inches long and 2 inches wide, small by normal measurements or front-door plates.
Miss Margaret feels this piece needs to be hung on a wall and admired as is, without a door knob. The plate weigh almost a half pound.
